Community Boating Center (CBC) has purchased a new fleet of sailboats for its growing inner-city outreach, youth sailing, and adult training programs made possible by grants from The Champlin Foundations, Citizens Bank, and individual donors.

The new fleet of six boats will allow CBC to further grow its popular learn-to-sail programs with a safe, stable, and fun design providing increased comfort in introducing new sailors to the sport. It features unsinkable construction, a wide “non-tippy” hull, and a user-friendly, simple layout.

The boats will also sail in CBC’s “Renaissance Regatta”, a corporate benefit event featuring teams of CBC youth and adult sponsors working together in a series of fun challenges and races. The annual regatta is followed by a silent auction all in support of CBC youth outreach initiatives.

John O’Flaherty, Executive Director of CBC commented, “We are thrilled with how well this boat handles in a stiff breeze and surprised how it moves in light air. It is simple to set up single handed, has a roller furling jib, points well, and is very stable for a boat this size. This boat can heel way over and not tip.”

Community Boating Center (CBC) is a non-profit, 501c3 recreational organization offering all members of the community an opportunity to sail. Located in India Point Park, CBC provides outreach, sailing lessons and affordable access to the Providence waterfront. Gifts of cash or property to CBC may be treated as charitable donations for Federal Tax purposes.
