CITIZENS BANK FOUNDATION AND COMMUNITY BOATING LAUNCH “KIDSAIL” SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS FOR AT-RISK RI YOUTH

Summer sailing camp sets sail with $22K in youth “Sailorships” donated by Citizens Bank Foundation.

Providence, RI - Community Boating Center and the Citizens Bank Foundation have teamed up to provide “KidSail” summer camp scholarships for Rhode Island youth ages 8-11 to attend sailing camp at India Point Park in Providence.

Citizens Bank Foundation has donated $22K toward “Sailorships” to assist at-risk youth in achieving a sailing experience deserving of all Ocean State residents. Sailorships are awarded according to need and focus on serving greater Providence and Rhode Island youth and families of all representative races, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds.

Joseph J. MarcAurele, Chairman, President & CEO of Citizens Bank of Rhode Island commented “Sailing instruction is secondary to the real learning that takes place on the water. Youth from varied backgrounds come together and learn tolerance, trust and respect for each other.”

“Designed to meet a pressing need for quality out-of-school-time programs, KidSail creates an engaging, instructive, and fun environment as a vital alternative to unsupervised summer days for at-risk youth,” stated John O’Flaherty, Executive Director of Community Boating Center. “Through the engaging nature of sailing, the program fosters the development of transferable learning skills and newly acquired confidence as essential building blocks for future developmental growth.”

Community Boating Center (CBC) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 recreational organization offering all members of the community an opportunity to sail. Located in India Point Park, CBC provides outreach, sailing lessons and affordable access to the Providence waterfront.

Citizens Bank Foundation is a charitable contributions vehicle of Citizens Bank. The foundation’s support is focused on housing, community development and basic human needs.
