VOTE TODAY! (voting closes 12/16/12):

John O’Flaherty, Executive Director of Community Boating Center (Providence, RI)

During his tenure as the Executive Director of the Community Boating Center in Providence, John O'Flaherty has managed to build one of the most diverse community sailing programs in the country. He's created programs that allow children from various socio-economic backgrounds to go sailing for little to no cost.

Last year alone over 800 children experienced CBC's outreach programs. These children were primarily recruited through strategic liaisons with structured organizations in the Greater Providence area. He's also developed a vibrant adult program which offers affordable access and maritime education to adults.

Additionally, through his forward thinking, he's developed the premier sailing-specific STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programming. He's done such an outstanding job with the STEM program that it's serving as the model for US Sailing's national program. In short, John represents all the best aspects of Community Sailing. He's passionate about what he's doing, he's always willing to help others (students and fellow educators) and he's making a difference both locally, and nationally.

Community Boating Center (CBC) is a non-profit, 501c3 recreational organization offering all members of the community an opportunity to sail. Located in India Point Park, CBC provides outreach, sailing lessons and affordable access to the Providence waterfront. Gifts of cash or property to CBC may be treated as charitable donations for Federal Tax purposes.
