The family that sails together, stays together.

Okay, so we just made that up. Still, if you're a parent who's looking for a fun, affordable and kid-friendly summer activity, do yourself a favor and check out Providence's Community Boating Center.

Founded in 1994 by a group of public-spirited sailing enthusiasts, the CBC offers regular sailing lessons for children and adults from late spring through early fall.

Last year, more than 800 children participated in CBC-sponored programs, which range from low-cost beginners' classes to more advanced instruction.

One of the center's most popular offerings - its annual Youth Summer Sailing Camp - starts Monday, June 25, and runs through Aug. 19.

The Community Boating Cenger is at the western end of India Point Park.
