New H2O Zone Highlights Small Boat Sailing
Community Boating Center (CBC) has partnered with the Providence Boat Show, purchased by the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association (RIMTA) this fall, to help bring a fresh perspective and new attractions to this annual happening.
A new hub of the show for small-boat enthusiasts is the “H20 Zone,” where showgoers can learn about the different ways they can get out on the water — in whatever way suits their skill-level or style. A joint effort of Zim Sailing, Laser Performance, The Boat Locker, and community-sailing organizations Community Boating Center and Sail Newport, the Zone will feature a fleet of small watercraft that will range from a simple Blue Dragon Pram to the high-performance Moth — the single-handed hydrofoil considered by many to be the fastest dinghy on the planet.
Partnering with the Providence Boat Show’s new management team, CBC hopes to evoke the passion of Ocean State boaters in fostering the growth of CBC’s and other local non-profit youth boating programs for everyone.
CBC will also award a $20 discount coupon for any multi-day, youth or adult learn-to-sail class to all visitors to the “H20 Zone” on the upper deck of the show. Additionally, CBC will provide details on its programs and boats from kayaks to keelboats. CBC features a wide range of small boats that has enabled significant growth in youth and adult learn-to-sail programs with safe, stable, and fun designs providing increased comfort in introducing new sailors to the sport.
Details on CBC’s “Renaissance Regatta”, a corporate benefit event featuring teams of CBC youth and adult sponsors working together in a series of fun challenges and races will also be available. The annual regatta is followed by a silent auction all in support of CBC youth outreach initiatives.
John O’Flaherty, Executive Director of CBC commented, “We are delighted to be part of the “H20 Zone” at the Providence Boat Show and for this wonderful opportunity. Community Boating is excited to continue to serve as a gateway to Narragansett Bay in introducing boating to the people of the Ocean State.”
Community Boating Center (CBC) is a non-profit, 501c3 recreational organization offering all members of the community an opportunity to sail. Located in India Point Park, CBC provides outreach, sailing lessons and affordable access to the Providence waterfront. Gifts of cash or property to CBC may be treated as charitable donations for Federal Tax purposes.
