The Community Boating Center (CBC) recently hosted the 170’ schooner Mystic on September 7th and 13th in Providence, RI.

Seniors from Paul Cuffee School, a maritime themed charter school and long-time CBC sailing partner, boarded the vessel for a multi-day adventure from CBC’s newly refurbished pier.

Mystic is a newly launched (2007) three-masted, gaff-rigged, square topsail schooner. She carries 8,500 square feet of sail in her 14 sails, including square sails on the foremast, and gaff topsails on the after two masts.

John O’Flaherty, Executive Director of CBC, commented “We are thrilled at our new capability to host large vessels on our new pier. We look forward to further opportunities to bring ocean going vessels to the capital of the Ocean State.”

Paul Cuffee School (PCS) is a public charter school in Providence, Rhode Island, that serves a diverse community of students in kindergarten through high school. The maritime theme that runs throughout our curriculum cultivates independence, initiative, and a respect for the environment; it also offers hands-on learning opportunities that both deepen and extend students’ academic knowledge.
